The Boathouse

Lakeside dining at the Boathouse. 6/16/24 dwm

When the Edgewater Hotel opened in 2014 it revived an iconic inn and night spot on Lake Mendota.

The Oakwood Foundation held our gala in the new hotel ballroom that fall. Part of the hotel was still under construction, a second building with more rooms, a spa, and a bar and grill next to the pier.

Father's Day was my first time at The Boathouse.

It was hotter and more humid as the day went on but it was great weather when we arrived. We sat inside with air conditioning and a nice view of the lake.

We had truffle fries as an appetizer to go along with our drinks while waiting for our orders. I requested the Pulled Pork sandwich.

I got it with chips. I'm not much of a 'chip' guy unless they are Sun Chip brand but I like taking three or four potato chips to place on either side of the meat.

The crunch and saltiness adds something. I leave most of the chips for the rest of the table. I liked the sandwich because it didn't fall out of the bun and tasted great.

The Boathouse is a perfect place for lunch or to hangout for a while. We saw several boats float by, including a large pontoon boat with a slide for swimmers.

The other restaurant at the Edgewater is The Statehouse, it's open for all three meals but it's pricier, which you expect at a hotel of Edgewater's caliber.

I thought the prices in the Boathouse were fair, in line with other places we frequent.

It's a fantastic setting, just east of the University of Wisconsin with a gorgeous view of Lake Mendota. Underground parking is for hotel guests and those visiting the restaurants. You can even rent a boat and take a spin on the water.

We'll go back.
