How about them Brewers?

Bernie Brewer. 4/23/23 dwm
Before the season, no one knew what kind of team Milwaukee would put on the field.

It's safe that 84 games into the season that no one expected them team to be this good!

The new manager of the Brewers, Pat Murphy, is doing a great job. Central to his approach is trying to win the next game.

That seems too logical, but the idea behind it is what seems to fuel the team's never-say-die effort and the games they won or made close because they didn't give up.

Over the course of 162 games, it's easy for a team to throw in the towel if they fall behind or have less than their best starter on the pitcher's mound. Murphy's Brew Crew works to win that day's game, then win-or-lose, win the next one.

The team's longest losing streak is 3 games and they've lost just two of eight series through the first three months of the season.

Christian Yelich, the MVP in 2018 for the Brewers, is having his best season since 2019. Second-year second baseman Brice Turang is playing great defense for the second straight season and has become a threat with his bat, hitting .292 for the year. Turang hit two grand slams on the home stand that finished today, with one against Texas and another in Sunday's (6/30/24) win over Chicago.

Jackson Churio is rookie phenom. He is Milwaukee's top prospect and is playing like it in the big leagues. His defense is good, his hitting is improving after a slow start, and the speed he brings to the game is a weapon the Brewers haven't had much in their history.

In fact, team speed is used as a weapon in nearly every game, beating infield grounders, taking an extra base, and running down long flies in the outfield.

After taking 2 of 3 from the Cubs and winning of 5 of 6 at home, Milwaukee is 50 - 34. They have a 6-and-a-half game lead on St. Louis.  That doesn't mean anything for now, but it's a good sign their recent success (reaching 4 of the last 5 playoffs) has a good chance to continue.  Go Brewers!
