A great place to eat. 5/11/24 dwm |
It's a long trip for breakfast but it was worth the trip. If you missed the blog about it, click here.
After breakfast, we drove downtown, then found a couple of specialty shops my wife wanted to see. The late and large breakfast meant we weren't hungry for lunch, so we drove to Janesville for a stop at Frostie Freeze.
The family-owned ice cream stand is a long-time favorite, starting in high school when a Frostie Freeze opened across the street from Janesville Craig High. Their chocolate chip malts taste the same, GREAT!
Monday I got a haircut. Going to the barber used to be simple, now, of course, you need an app. SportClips offers the ability to put your name in for a spot in line and the app tells you when to arrive. I signed up for a time but when I got there the store was empty.
It seems the app was down. I was told initially I had a 56 minute wait with 11 people in front of me. The problem was that all those people had been there and left. I could have walked in with no wait. It frustrated the five stylists on duty, who had nothing to do, in part because the app likely scared away potential customers. That was weird.
The city of Madison is putting finishing touches on a Rapid Transit Bus line that may be just the thing to make Madison accessible. Right now, though, buses are using the lane closest to the curb that is also considered a bike and right-turn only lane. Eventually buses will pick up and drop off passengers at the boulevard.
Depending on my timing and the buses, there are days like Tuesday when I can't (or don't) pull into Kwik Trip for a morning beverage. There is a bus stop between the corner and the Kwik Trip driveway. Either it stops for a pickup, making it difficult to pull around the bus (which is against the law), or it acts like a moving screen. It happened again on Friday.
Wednesday when I got home, it was time to grab a scraper and head to the deck. The last time it was painted, we put an all-weather carpet on so the deck would be more comfortable. It worked, but it absorbed water that wasn't good for the wood deck.
One board was rotten. I prepared a replacement and gave it four coats of paint. The deck was scraped in both directions but it still looked rough, so I went over it again, scraping in each direction to remove as much paint off as possible.
Thursday I worked on the east campus which meant driving on the Beltline. It can be busy and have delays but in my experience it's still faster than other routes. Near the Broadway Avenue exit, a motorcycle came out of nowhere, going over 70, swerving from one lane to another with no room for error. He may have made it that morning, but driving like that will hurt or kill somebody.
Friday I ended the week wrapping up a few projects. There were letters to print, sign, and seal; invitations to sort, send, and deliver; and plans to make for future articles. On the way home, there was an accident; a school bus rear-ended a car at a stop light. Both were stopped, waiting for police. I couldn't see if there were passengers in the bus, I saw a driver in the bus, a driver in the car, and someone watching from the median. Meanwhile, cars worked their way around the two stalled vehicles in the center lane.
At home, I scraped the back half of the deck one more time and applied a second coat of paint on the front half. I plan to get two coats of paint on before the end of the weekend.
That's my week, I hope your next week is great!
