It's on to Green Bay

Packer beat writers had good early reviews for the 12 players chosen during the three-day Annual Player Selection Meeting.

Top pick Jordan Morgan is a versatile athlete able to play four positions along the offensive line. At worst, he provides competition with last year's left tackle while learning the tricks of the trade his rookie year. At best, he locks down a starting position and keeps the quarterback safe.

Edgerrin Cooper, their second pick, is a fast linebacker with the pedigree to step in right away, potentially giving the Packers a one-two punch on defense they haven't had in years. The 3rd pick is Javon Bullard, a safety out of Georgia. He played twice in college championship games and was considered one of the best players on the field.

They took a second linebacker, two more offensive linemen, two more safeties, a running back, and a quarterback to round out the roster.

The drafted QB picks up a long-time team philosophy of developing a young play-caller for the future. The rest of the players add depth. If they are active during the season, they will be counted on to play special teams.

The General Manager, coach, scouts, and front office personnel work out of team office's during the draft. In 2014=5, the NFL took the draft on the road, it's been a big success. Chicago hosted the first two years, followed by Philadelphia, Dallas, Nashville, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Kansas City, and Detroit. Because of Covid-19, it was held virtually in 2020.

Next year it comes to Titletown, Green Bay Wisconsin.  Team event officials plus government and business leaders in Green Bay have been planning for a year. They had a large contingent in the Motor City to see things up close. The NFL operates the draft. The city delivers locations and logistics to handle the large crowds and demands of hosting a three-day live television show.

Detroit broke attendance records for the draft. Green Bay is a city with just over 100,000 people plus the greater metro area. The draft attracts fans from all 32 teams. I expect Green Bay Packer fans from around the state, country, and world will make a trek for the city's NFL celebration.

It will very likely be the biggest event of its kind in Wisconsin history.

I'm not sure how it will work out, but I'd love to be there for some of it.  Go Pack, Go!
