Hoodie Hoo!

Spring in bloom. 5/2/15

The first time I heard of Hoodie Hoo Day, it was from my long-time friend who worked in radio.

It's celebrated a month before spring as a royal send-off for winter and all it leaves behind.

One unusual feature of the day is that it was established by the owners of Wellcat.  The way you celebrate is by going outside at noon, waving your hands and shouting, "Hoodie Hoo!" to say good-bye to winter and hello to spring.

Apparently in Poland, an effigy depicting winter is burned and thrown in a river to welcome spring.

However you celebrate, after all that effort it's customary to return home for cups of tea, eating, cleaning closets, getting flower seeds to plant, and prepare for spring.

The best thing about this holiday for me is the name comes from the Andy Griffith show, where it was a way to say, "how are you?"
