Our breakfast spot. 1/2/24 |
January 1st is for obvious reasons; the second is a lesser-known occasion but is an equally important at our house. It's my wife's birthday.
Her favorite trip is to Milwaukee. We stopped for breakfast at The Pine Cone in Johnson Creek. Then we stopped in Delafield.
As a quilter, she is always looking for fabric in some form or another - jelly rolls and fat quarters are popular with most practitioners of the craft. That's why a regular stop on these ventures is Patched Works in Elm Grove.
Stop #3. |
My role as quilter's spouse is to sit in the car. Which I mostly did, except for a few minutes when I took pictures in the neighborhood.
One place I'd not visited in Milwaukee before is the Sprecher brewery. That was our next place on our list.
Sprecher makes craft beers and soft drinks in Greendale, a community north of Milwaukee. They weren't offering tours but we were able to get a glimpse of the bottling line, taste some of the products, and shop.
Root Beer is their most popular soft drink and one of my favorites. Orange Dream is so creamy, it tastes like an orange ice cream soda.

We both bought product at Sprecher's - I'm looking forward to trying their new Honey Crisp Apple soda. I like apple cider, I like apple juice, why wouldn't I like apple soda?
After Sprecher's, it was a short drive to Kopp's Custard for lunch. We had burgers, fries, and shared a chocolate salted carmel malt. (Holidays are for splurging!)
Then we took Lake Drive to downtown where we headed west toward home, stopping once more to pick up individual-size bundt cakes.
The birthday girl was pleased with her day and her gifts. The weather cooperated, providing sunshine for the morning, it was a great day together.
It was sunny and cool, made colder by a brisk breeze. 1/2/2024 dwm photo |
