My Week that Was - January 20

Snow-covered Spruce. 1/13/24 dwm
Saturday started the week by wrapping up 20 inches of snowfall before moving into the coldest stretch of the season.

Sunday was cold and kept getting colder.  Daytime highs were in the high single digits and fell into negative double digits at night.  The high temperature on Monday and Tuesday was around 1 degree!

A terrific performance by the Green Bay Packers Sunday afternoon warmed the hearts of fans across the Dairy state and beyond as legions of Packer fans cheered the good guys as they ran all over the Dallas Cowboys.

Monday was the Martin Luther King Junior holiday.  The freezing conditions kept us inside most of the day with only a couple trips outside.

I made my daily trip to the gym but wore a lot more gear than usual.  The cold, dry air took its toll on exposed skin. A lot of Eucerin healing cream was needed to re-hydrate hands, legs, and arms.

Tuesday I was back at work on the east campus.  The cold cancelled a meeting but I was able to meet with two donor couples.  With the mid-point of January behind us, it was a yellow flag that time was running out on the final steps to close out the month.

This week we started pulling together giving statements to be mailed before the end of the month.  The database we're using isn't cooperating.  More accurately, there must be something we're doing we shouldn't or not doing that we are.  In either case the first couple times we ran the gift summaries, instead of names it printed "Anonymous."

Temperatures warmed slightly into Thursday as we approached 20 for the first time in a week.  We got a dusting of snow in the early hours of Friday but it was a light layer of fluffy snow.

The Wisconsin Badger basketball team is off to a good start in B1G conference play with 5 wins in 6 conference games.  Penn State took them down a notch in Pleasant Valley but Wisconsin rebounded with a strong effort against Indiana.  It's a deep team that should return the Badgers to the NCAA tournament after missing 2023.

We're watching an interesting series on PBS called Funny Woman.  It's a fictional account of a young woman from a small community north of London and her dream of becoming the next Lucille Ball.  Set in the 1960s, it tells a story similar to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,

I hope you have a great weekend, I'm hoping to get some pictures to start the new week.  Thanks for reading!
