My Week that Was - November 18

Inside Monty's Blue Plate Diner. 11/11/23 dwm
We went out for breakfast at Monty's Blue Plate Diner Saturday morning.  It's one of our favorite places in a cool part of Madison.

The building was originally a gas station.  It was made into a restaurant with a bakery in the basement, dining counter and a display case for their bakery.  It's a cozy spot that is usually bustling on Saturdays.

We went with pancakes and I had a couple crispy strips of bacon.  It was good.

The rest of Saturday was a mix of household chores and watching football.  I appreciate having tasks that fit neatly in or around a game.

It would have been better had the Wisconsin football Badgers not played their worst game of the season (see Sunday's blog)

The next day the Packers played better in Pittsburgh than they did a week earlier.  Green Bay lost but passed the eye test in several moments when receivers made plays, the quarterback stayed poised and moved the team downfield, and when the second half defense looked more like the players fans were hoping to see all season long.  Tomorrow the Packers are home again playing the L.A. Chargers in Lambeau Field.

It won't be easy but if the team is going to turn their season around, the next game is the one to make a statement.

The first three days of the work week were primarily spent on mailings.  On Monday there were thank you letters to print, sign, and send.  Tuesday there was a larger pile of letters going to employees to let them know a donor made a gift in their honor.  Wednesday, our year-end appeal letters were delivered so they could be distributed to residents and off-campus supporters.

The first responses to the latest letter came in hours after they hit resident mailboxes.  Friday I had a conference call and paperwork before the first of two campus meetings.  I didn't have a particular role other than supporting a colleague in their presentation.  Before heading to the second session I decided against carrying a portfolio to take notes.

Bad idea.  Before the meeting was over I had four messages to remember for Monday.  After the meeting, I got a piece of paper and pen, writing down the first two, the third a while later.  It was ten minutes before I recalled the last note to put on my calendar.

I hope your calendar is full of good days and good times, have a great week!
