Alert Day

The 'first' snow. 10/31/23
The local weather forecasters were breathless... "temperatures on Halloween will fall into the 20s.."  "Snow flurries are coming in, allow extra time to get to work."

Living in a southern climate like south Wisconsin, the warnings hit close to home because we aren't used to such perilous conditions.  Even light amounts of snow can shut down cities in the south.

But it's not supposed to do that in south Wisconsin, we should be used to it, able to find a coat and gloves and act accordingly when Wisconsin weather is about.

There is good reason to take precautions when conditions warrant.  When you live in an area where winters spend three or four months every year, the conditions that go with it are not a surprise.

Yet here we are.  Somewhere during the past 40 years instead of living in the conditions that come with Wisconsin, we've somehow become conditioned to treat weather as an enemy.

It looks like powdered sugar but it's not
Winter weather isn't a joke but it isn't a death sentence either, a little preparation and a positive attitude can get your through or over obstacles in front of you.

The first winter alert day sounded more like the boy crying wolf than an actual siren.

It was cold, not cold compared to the depth of winter, but cold compared to what it was like six weeks ago.

It snowed, but just a trace, nothing compared to what a big storm might do in January or March.

We live in Wisconsin, let's act like it!
