New Friends Day

Autumn leaves in Verona. 10/15/23 dwm

Today is the day to explore new connections and celebrate the potential for friends all around you.

This is one of four friend themed 'holidays,' in the wacky holiday calendar universe.

While making friends is laudable, it isn't always an easy endeavor.

Making a friend doesn't just happen, it takes time, days - weeks - even months.

Just don't try to make a friend, instead try to be one.  Be friendly, be helpful, take an interest in someone.  Get to know someone and at some point along the road of meeting people, I bet at some point you'll discover you have several new friends, with no idea how it happened.

I think about the friends I've been blessed to have as an adult and none of them became friends because either of us planned it in advance.  Instead, as we got acquainted, we discovered things we had in common and found we enjoyed each other's company.

Less is more when it comes to making friends; in fact, I'd suggest you can't make a friend.  You're more likely to unwrap one a little at a time.

You might succeed.  You might not.  But in the course of getting to know people, learn their interests, and show interest in them, I'm fairly certain you'll discover friends you didn't know you already had.

Celebrate your friends, everyday.
