No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Happy Labor Day - it's a day to recognize the working men and women across our country and over two centuries built the country and the lives families enjoy.
As Dr. King said, all work has value, including jobs we might want to avoid. Doctors, nurses, and a host of caregivers do lifesaving work but if the rooms, floors, and operating rooms aren't clean and sterile the skill won't matter.
There was a lot of hard work that built this country and workers had to labor for fair wages. The work was important but without the hard-won rights for shorter hours and family-supporting benefits there would be no middle class.
I grew up in Janesville, Wisconsin which was home to a plant for a century that built cars and trucks. Union jobs supported families, provided health benefits, and sent a lot of kids to college.
Work is a gift that provides us with purpose and the means to provide for ourselves and others. Do your best, do a day's work for a day's pay, and appreciate the opportunity.

While Labor Day isn't the end of the season, it is considered the end of summer as most kids return to school and life returns to the routine that most of us have lived with our whole life.
There are plenty of warm days to enjoy before we need to bundle up but pay attention as the waning days of summer give way to autumn. As the earth moves, so do the seasons from spring to summer to fall and winter.
Don't panic - enjoy the day - let tomorrow worry about itself.
