Brewers Win! Brewers Win!

I've never been at the stadium when my team clinched a title of any kind until Tuesday.

The Brewers could have won the National League Central by beating the St Louis Cardinals but they didn't.  They won because the Atlanta Braves came back from a 6-run deficit to defeat the Cubs just moments after the Brewer game ended.

The outfield scoreboard wasn't showing the score from the Cubs game so most of us were checking the score on our phones.  So many were doing this that Brewer players noticed a Braves cheer in the bottom half of the Brewer's ninth inning.

When it as a done deal, several thousand fans stood by their seats cheering and hoping the team would come out to celebrate with them.  My son and I waited more than 15 minutes then made our way to the car and a happy ride home.

I'm excited for the post-season because I think this team has enough pieces to win the World Series.

Starting pitchers, Brandon Woodruff, Corbin Burnes, and Freddy Peralta are a solid core of starters and a capable crew of relief pitching can keep them in games and keep another team out of the game.

The Cubs game ended with a strike-out.
The defense is solid and, if enough players get hot at the plate like they have since August, there is no reason they couldn't win a title.

It was a fun, shared experience watching the Braves win on the center field scoreboard as the Atlanta closer struck out former Brave and Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson for the final out.

When the game ended and we were ready to leave, we did stop in the team store where play-off merchandise was on sale.  I walked out with a Division champ pin and ball cap.

After the game, the scoreboard said it all.
While I believe the Brewers could be champs, it takes a lot of things to happen to win it all and a few missteps could derail a trip to the title.

Walking out of American Family Field with a crowd of Brew believers, I imagine we were all watching our personal highlight show of manager Craig Counsell and his plucky team hoisting the trophy.

It will mean a lot to Brewer alumni and the man synonymous with Milwaukee, Bob Uecker.  At 89, he's still doing radio play-by-play like he has since 1971.  Let's win it for Ueck!
