Grosse Point Lighthouse. 5/27/23

After Saturday's workout, we took a road trip. We picked up breakfast at Kwik Trip while filling the tank and headed to Illinois where we planned to see two lighthouses.
Grosse Point is the nicest and most accessible of the lights in Illinois. It's in Evanston, close to the campus of Northwestern University. We got there without any trouble and found public parking close to the house.
After our visit, we drove north through beautiful neighborhoods in communities that sent a lot of my classmates to Drake when I was there. Eventually, we found our way to Waukegan, which is close to the Illinois - Wisconsin border, to visit the second and final light of the trip. From there, we drove north to Oak Creek where another kind of light was beckoning my wife - this light was coming from the blue and yellow Ikea sign.
Sunday after church, I got a ride in around Lake Monona. I didn't work Monday, so got in another ride that day, this one a short 21-mile trip which turned around where the pavement ends on the Badger State Trail.

Sunday afternoon we finally picked up the series of Marvel Universe movies with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It's very good and probably better if you saw the first Black Panther and other Marvel films.
Over the last week we finished "A Small Light" which follows a woman who helped Anne Frank's family hide from the Nazi's for two years; and "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," which is loose version of Joan Rivers' biography.
Finally, we completed season three of "The Mandalorian," which is set after the 6th episode, Return of the Jedi, of Star Wars films. They couldn't be more different but all three became favorites.
It was nice having a three-day weekend, my first long weekend since mid-March.
Monday we started watching the latest documentary on the History Channel, FDR. It's a three-part program on President Franklin Roosevelt starting with his path in cousin Teddy Roosevelt's footprints, fighting the Depression and how his administration handled World War II. There are plenty of flaws in the FDR story but it's difficult to imagine how any other president would have succeeded.
Tuesday I worked on stories for our upcoming newsletter. There are cool stories to share about the impact donors are making with their gifts.
Wednesday was busy with four donor visits which took the better part of the full day with preparation and putting down notes and writing thank you letters after each one.
Thursday was busier than expected with one meeting running into a second one. Thankfully I was able to get some things resolved and ready to roll. For a short week, it felt longer than usual.

Wrong package. 6/3/2023
|
I recently renewed my membership in the Wisconsin Bike Federation. The Bike Fed puts out an annual book which lists rides going around the state and sponsors the Ride Across Wisconsin. As an incentive to also make a gift, socks were offered.
A package arrived Friday and instead of socks, I received sleeves. I sent an email with the photo and receipt showing socks as the premium. We'll see what happens next.
I hope you get what's coming for you this week!
