A New Place to Eat

The Williams' family on the wall in the Cafe.
The Vessel Cafe in Cross Plains opened in 2021 but only recently it received publicity that alerted us to its presence not far from our home.

It's on U.S. Highway 14 but unless you know where it is as you drive west, you're likely to drive right past.  It wasn't obvious until we turned around and headed back and found it on the first floor of an apartment building next to another restaurant at 1820 Main Street.

Shaun and Krystal Williams opened when they decided that small but growing Cross Plains needed a cafe/bakery open for breakfast and lunch.  Based on my first visit, I'd say they hit it out of the park.

Shaun greeted us as we walked in, just like he did every one else walking in the door; he also said good-bye.  There is a great atmosphere in this cozy, colorful, and warm cafe.

It's a local spot that cooks from scratch.  I could taste the quality in my simple dish of biscuits and gravy.  While it's probably not 'heart friendly' but as a rare treat it's delectable.

They have a large bakery case as well with a variety of treats and breakfast fare.

The cinnamon rolls (offered in two sizes) look amazing.

We enjoyed our visit, highlighted by running into a friend from work at the next table over.

If you are ordering an item coming out of the kitchen, scratch-made means you'll wait a few minutes before it emerges but it is worth that wait.  We spent time visiting with my work colleague and his cousin who were also visiting the cafe for the first time.

It's friendly and serves great food.  My only quibble was my chocolate milk was in a small container instead of made by stirring syrup into an ice cold glass of milk. We'll definitely return.
