Pizza, Pizza

It's National Pizza Day.  Isn't every day pizza day?

Next week is the first of 11 pizza parties I'm planning to host on Oakwood's east campus.  It's the perfect food for an informal gathering.

It's fun and economical.  One pie can probably serve four people, or two hungry folks.

Back in college, my roommate and I frequently ordered one - first from Paul Revere's, then from Domino's - late at night for strength to study a few more hours.

According to pizza statistics, Super Bowl Sunday sees more pizzas sold than any other day of the year.

I don't chow down an entire pizza in one-sitting any more but I will occasionally have a slice for breakfast and then lunch or supper later in the day.

The first pizza was sold in Naples, Italy in 1738.  That probably means the first delivery was ordered a year later.

Another pizza statistic says the average American eats 23 pounds of pizza a year.  That seems to be on the low side considering 3 billion pizzas are sold each year.

One of pizza's redeeming qualities is that even bad pizza is welcome at a party or lunch.  Some people like exotic pizzas without tomato sauce, cheese or meat toppings.  I don't know what they're thinking but to each his or her own.

I hope you celebrate pizza day, get one from the freezer, order one, or head to your local pizzeria to satisfy your pizza craving.  Enjoy!
