Munching in Mazo

Outside the 1855 Coffee House. dwm
Mazomanie is in the northwest corner of Dane County, a city of 1,700 people straddling U.S. Highway 14.  We've driven through Mazo, a bunch of times on our way to other places up the road (Spring Green, Richland Center, La Crosse) but this time it was our destination for breakfast.

At 1 Broadhead Street, the primary crossroads in downtown Mazomanie, the 1855 Coffee House opened inside an old bank building.

1855 is the year Mazomanie became a Wisconsin village.  The bank closed its doors years ago but the vault remains and is a focal point of the comfortable cafe.

We parked next to the front door and walked right in.  My wife ordered a muffin with her coffee.  I opted for hot chocolate and their Classic Egg Sandwich (egg, ham, and white cheddar on a bagel).

It was excellent.  For years I've avoided breakfast sandwiches, I'm not sure why, it's not like pancakes or french toast were a healthier option.  The egg and ham (not green, thank you) provide a nice shot of protein that melded with the melted cheddar to create the exactly right 'mouth feel.'

The coffee house has plenty of room to settle in for a couple hours of reading; meeting someone; or working on a laptop.  This place still has the feeling of new and a gentle welcome to everyone coming in the door.

The vault guards their gift shop. 2/18/2023
