My Week that Was - January 28

The new look, old Paoli Creamery. 1/22/23 dwm
Saturday was quiet but Sunday delivered something new as I joined the Verona Historical Society at Paoli's Seven Acre Dairy Company.

It's the third time I've attended an event sponsored by the Society.  All of them interesting.  They offer bite-size chunks of local history told by people who've been there or spent hours researching the subject.

The first time I got to hear Dan Atkins tell the story of how he got into the bike shop business. The second was through an interesting exhibit on Verona's 175th Anniversary on display at the public library.

This time it was at the old Paoli Creamery which recently re-opened after a long time passing time as a home for retail stores; now it's come full circle as it is making butter again.  I didn't sample any of the food but that will happen soon.

Lately, we've had a lot of light snow. 1/21/23
It snowed a lot this week, in terms of the number of days with snowfall but we didn't get a lot of the white stuff.

Wednesday afternoon, driving home from work, I heard an interview with Miss America, Grace Stanke, who is from Wausau.  She is also a student at the University of Wisconsin Madison studying nuclear engineering.

An amusing part of the interview was her description of what happened after she was crowned December 15 then returned to Madison for final exams.  She stopped at Kwik Trip on her way to class and the cashier tried to figure out where she recognized Stanke from, guessing they had a class together freshman year.

Stanke said she knew where it was going so admitted she was Miss America.  Then as she ate her muffin on the way to class a group of runners passed by offering congratulations, which shocked her because she couldn't figure out how anyone knew her while in winter garb.  It wasn't the usual sports-talk interview but I suspect a large number of Wisconsinites listening in were proud that Grace Stanke is representing Wisconsin and America.

Building obscures some of the roof-top sign.
Thursday was our anniversary, to celebrate we went to Lombardino's, a neighborhood Italian restaurant close to campus.

Neighborhood is key to describing the restaurant.  Because it's in neighborhood, there isn't a large parking lot and street parking is highly coveted by hundreds of apartment dwellers, most of whom are university students.

We were lucky, finding a place to parallel park on the street a two-block walk from the restaurant.  It was ultimately worth the walk and we had a lovely dinner.  I'll have more about Lombardino's in tomorrow's blog.

Friday I took the day off so we could spend the day together.  We went to breakfast at the Seven Acre Creamery, then picked up a few items on our way back home.  I found a couple of nice, lightly-worn Docker's sweaters which are something I can use in the office during the winter.

I might need one this weekend, as colder temperatures are jet-streaming down from the north.  Bundle up and have a great week!
