It Snowed, it snowed, it snowed

Six inches fell Saturday night. 1/29/2023 dwm

Starting last Wednesday, we heard it was possible we could get a good amount of snow over the weekend.

I'm generally skeptical of those predictions because a lot of things need to happen for an accurate forecast.

A couple degrees one way or the other; which direction will the jet stream blow the storm system; and is there enough moisture to drop that much snow?

Most of Saturday, the snow falling was light and fit the description of flurries, not a snow-stacking storm.

It's cold, the snow is staying.
Jump ahead to late afternoon and there were a couple inches on the ground but no snow falling made it feel like we were going to be missed.

I saw snow on the ground Sunday morning but a pair of wheel tracks indicated this was the most snow we've seen this season.  In early December we had a couple snowfalls that were so wet the snow quickly compressed from 7 inches to 5.

Lucky for us, we live on a secondary street that gets early attention from city snowplows; if we can get out of the driveway we can get where we want to go.  It took five minutes to clean off the car, then I moved it to clear off my parking space so it would be ready after the gym.  That was a good decision.

You could easily find a place to park at the gym.  Thankfully the snowplow driver had cleaned the lot before anyone arrived.  The roads were snow-covered but not a problem.

We need snow.  I'm not sure how much insulation value it brings this late in the season but it will provide moisture when spring arrives.
Shovel out hydrants! 1/29/23

Emergency water can have trouble with large amounts of snow - if neighbors don't adopt fire hydrants valuable time could be lost if fire fighters have to shovel before hooking up the hoses.

Please look around your home to see if yours is easily accessible, if not, please care for it.  It might save your home.
