Rainbow Falls

Rainbow Falls in the Ottawa Forest
Rainbow Falls is the third and final drop after Potawatomi Falls before the Black River empties into Lake Superior.

It's name comes from what viewers see when falling water creates a mist which creates a rainbow in the sun.

I didn't see a rainbow on my visit and the river had less water than usual.  It was still pretty as the water swirled around a curl in the rock before falling to where the river takes a straight shot to the lake.

There is a short walk from the parking lot if you're driving from one falls to the next; it's a longer if you approach from the east side of the river where you might get a better point of view.  I didn't have time for the longer walk.

This walk was more difficult because the drop from the parking lot to the river requires a long stairway with a series of landings and turns as the steps descend around trees and angles to reach a level where you can walk out to the river before it cascades over the rocks.

I had no idea before we stayed in Ironwood there were so many falls to see.  If we get back, we'll have to make time to see more of them.
