A colleague at work told me about a new shop with a familiar name, Poindexter Coffee.
It's spelled different than the nickname bestowed on me in high school. The 't' in Pointdexter was usually silent, however, a debate teammate often called me Point or Pointy (not a big fan).
When I heard about the shop I decided the Pointdexter thing to do was to ride to the shop and check it out.
Poindexter is part of the Graduate Hotel chain which places accommodations near big colleges, including the University of Wisconsin.

It's a boutique hotel. In Madison it is several blocks east of the Memorial Union near Greek houses.
I only drink coffee professionally (on the job when asked if I want a cup) so I selected the hot tea from the menu. A steaming cup helped fortify me on a cool morning as I enjoyed the ambience of the shop's dining area in the hotel lobby.
There are food items on the menu. Three breakfast sandwiches and avocado toast highlight the a.m. menu. For lunch there is a panini and grilled cheese sandwich along with several light options plus grab-and-go items
The young women looked surprised to see a biker at the counter, I explained that back in school I was called Pointdexter and thought I needed to check out the store with my nickname. I know what you're thinking, and you're right, they were not impressed or even laughed.
I suggest visiting Poindexter's on foot or bike. Only street parking is available and that comes at a premium most days. I suspect most customers live nearby or spent the night.
