My Week that Was - October 1

Somewhere in the last five to ten years I learned something about vacation and work; it is important to get a break between the two.

Like many people, I used to get home from vacation the afternoon or evening before returning to work.  It would take several days to recover and get back in the work-a-day routine.

At first, we tried getting home early on the last day of vacation.  It helped but was still a difficult adjustment.  Now we return a day or two before it's time to go back to work.

That was the case on our most recent trip and it was very beneficial.  Some of the credit for this new transition goes to Covid-19.  In 2020 when everything shut down I used very few days off, rolling them into 2021.  This year I'm spending 2021vacation days with the luxury of having enough days to add a little cushion either side of work and play.

The Packers won a tough game in adverse conditions in Tampa Sunday.  It was the kind of game Green Bay hasn't been able to win the last few years.  It's too early to reach conclusions about the season based on the results from the third game but it does indicate the re-tooled defense may live up to expectations.

Mondays I'm on the Prairie Ridge campus of Oakwood Village.  This past Monday I was settling into a new office space.  There are no windows and it's not big.  What it does offer is a place to meet privately with donors.  It's a shared space meaning colleagues who need a place to work other days of the week are welcome to use it.

Tuesday I dove into phone calls - calls I didn't make the week I was gone and calls planned for last week.  It took a couple days but by Friday I had more than 50 calls checked off.

The Milwaukee Brewers got help this week from their division rivals, Chicago Cubs as they swept the Philadelphia Phillies allowing the Brew Crew to make up ground in the Wild Card race.  Thanks to the Cubs and a few wins in AmFam Field, Milwaukee was in a tie for the final play-off spot before first-pitch of their game Thursday.

While a win would have moved them into play-off position, they lost after giving up a grand slam home run in the 8th inning.  There are five games left for the Brew Crew, heading into Saturday, they are a half game behind Philadelphia (Philly has six games remaining) with five games left on Milwaukee's schedule.

It was a productive week in the office.  I made a lot of calls, reached more than half and scheduled nearly a dozen appointments.

The work week is over, and Wisconsin is expecting their first rain-free weekend in two months.  I'm not sure if time will allow but I'm hoping to take advantage of the favorable conditions and get out on the bike.

Have a great week!
