So Long Summer

Sunset at Merrimac. 10/25/14 dwm

There are just a couple days remaining of meteorological summer.

Recently I saw a sign in front of a fishing resort that read:

  "Hang in there summer!  Please?"

We wait for summer to arrive here in the upper latitudes.  Then when it arrives we lament the rainy days and the days where it is too hot and too humid for all the fun things we were planning to do.

This is a good example of the human condition.  We eagerly look forward then are disappointed or disenchanted when it appears.  In summer we look forward to autumn.

In the fall we anticipate the first snow flakes and in winter we yearn for the first hints of spring.

I'm guilty of looking ahead... to vacations; to ball games; to special days.  They arrive and POOF, they're gone leaving nary a trace.

We can't fix this in one day.

So let's enjoy today.  These 24 hours; 1,440 minutes are the only moments which are today.

It sounds daunting, being present in the moment for 24 hours.  So let's try a full minute truly experiencing family, nature, or prayer.

If that works, take a moment to appreciate the 2022 summer, before its moments are gone.
