Don't Forget the Elephants

Elephant and young at Milw Co Zoo 7/3/16 dwm

It is said at "an elephant never forgets."

Maybe the more import question is whether we remember and appreciating the elephant.

The world's largest land mammal is endangered, there are fewer than 50,000 African and Indian elephants in the world.

They are important for the Eco-system.  Poaching and a loss of habitat are primary reasons for their demise.

Given how much most people admire and love elephants, protecting the species and helping it strive could be good for the animal and the people who share its home.

Milwaukee County Zoo. 7/3/2016
It is a long road back from endangered status but other animals have recovered (Bald Eagles for one).

Today is Elephant Appreciation Day.

The top three ways to appreciate them:

1. Read/learn about elephants

2. Draw/paint/create elephant art

3. Visit elephants in the zoo (in an accredited Association of Zoo & Aquariums facility).

Plan to come back at 8:03 PM CDT for the Autumnal Equinox blog, thanks.
