Say it Ain't So!

The Superior Entry Lighthouse. 8/23/2021 dwm
Just a few days ago, I read a story from National Public Radio about vandals kicking in a door, breaking windows, and cutting power to the light.

The report quotes police saying this light has been pick on previously with several prior break-ins and multiple police reports.

The Superior Entry Lighthouse was built in 1913 at the edge of a 10-mile sandbar that straddles the norther border of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

When we visited the area last summer I enjoyed the beauty of the light as I walked along the beach.

The beauty and the remote location, it is not surrounded by homes or businesses, is probably what lead these hoodlums to ransack the historic light.

The lighthouse is privately owned while the United States Coast Guard operates the light.  The Coast Guard had the light back on an hour after it was reported dark.

The vandals had a long and difficult walk.
Deliberate destruction of public or private property is the dictionary definition of vandalism.  Like hundreds, no, thousands of vandalism cases around the world, the perpetrators are getting their jollies from wrecking something that brings joy to someone else.

The light will be fixed and there will probably be more security installed to prevent such mindless destruction from happening again.

I hope the guilty parties are caught, prosecuted and punished.

A just punishment for the scofflaws would be 100 hundred hours of cleaning the lighthouse inside and out until the local commander is satisfied with their work.
