My Week that Was - July 2

Melted, the food truck at Prairie Ridge 6/28/22

After a Sunday ride, it was back to work Monday with two consecutive days on Oakwood's Prairie Ridge campus.

Tuesday, a food truck came to campus, Melted.  You might guess one of the items on their menu is a grilled cheese sandwich.

That was my order.  It was pretty good with a great combination of taste and texture on sourdough bread.

Tuesday afternoon, the Foundation was part of the annual health and benefits fair.  We are on hand to share ways donors make a difference for them and residents as well as provide an opportunity to become donors.

Unfortunately, it was the same day I learned that my father-in-law passed away.  I asked him for his daughter's hand in marriage in November 1983, the next month I popped the question.  He worked hard for his family, served his county eight years in the Air Force, and served his community on the volunteer fire department.  The last dozen or so years of his life were difficult, most of them spent in a care facility.  It's a blessing to know he is no longer in pain.

His two daughters invited me to be part of the meeting with the funeral director.  It went well and the two are satisfied with the arrangements.

The day was rushed for everyone as we both drove in for the meeting then returned home.  The service is next Saturday.

Thursday I was back at work.  It was a very busy day with a pile of letters to print and get in the mail.  There were phone calls to return and others to place and a visit that afternoon.

It was also the day an ice cream truck visited the University Woods campus with free scoops for residents and staff.  I enjoyed a chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream cone.

Friday was split between the two campuses due to an unusual mid-afternoon donor visit.  This was the best time for them to meet, so we did.  We had a good conversation, laying the groundwork to see if we can come to a mutually beneficial result.

It's a long weekend, have fun and be careful!  Please come back Monday for a 4th of July post.

We're half-way through 2022!

Today is the 108th blog post of the year.

Based on the schedule for blogs this year, it's the mid-point with 109 remaining. There is a lot more to write.  Most topics are topical or relate to things I've been doing or plan to do; it will be interesting to see where the year takes us.  Thanks for joining me for the trip.

Later this month the blog reaches it's 10th anniversary.
