28-hundred

The home page - July 17, 2022

In 10 years and 10 days, I've posted something in this space 2,800 times.

There were a few days with multiple posts.  The ones that come to mind are when seasons change and the day after Packer games (I used to write an opinion piece the day after each game).

December 20, 2012 was the most prolific day.  On December 19 and 20, Madison was buried under 20-inches of snow.  It closed my office and many other businesses and roads around the area.

This is the first of five posts that day about storm Draco and what it looked like from our perch on the third floor of an apartment building on Madison's west side.

According to the statistics for my homepage, the most viewers visited They used to call me Pointdexter February 29, 2016 when 4,059 visitors stopped at the site.  Second most was October 31, 2015 with 4,014 page visits; third was January 31, 2017 with 3,989 views.  I don't know what to read into those numbers or how to break down the top countries in terms of readership.  Since my last name is European, I presume online searches may bring some folks into contact with us.

Readership was highest when I posted something every day (every day from 1/1/2013 to 12/31/15), while I enjoyed the challenge of coming up with something new every day, it focused more on quantity than quality.  While I won't argue the definition of quality, I believe putting up new content every Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday is a better and more consistent read.

It was fun doing three blog series (On the Air - a blog story 2015 and repeated in 2019; Radio Roseville - 2020; and Life on a Farm - a blog story - 2014), I am not sure when or if there will be a next series.

"My Week that Was" has been a regular Saturday feature since January 21, 2018.  Most of the time it recaps my week with thoughts or stories that wouldn't stand on their own.

It's also a treat to do something that delivers content for several days or weeks - that most often happens after a vacation or when we've visited bridges, lighthouses, or something else that lends itself to multiple stories.

Any way you cut it, 2,800 blogs is a big number.  Thank you for making it possible, because if you aren't reading on a regular basis there is no reason to write.  At the current pace we should reach 3,000 together in the spring of 2023.
