National Photography Month

  If you're a regular reader of this blog, you know I like taking pictures.

  May was recognized as National Photography Month by Congress in 1987.  I bet those lawmakers would be surprised to know the world takes more pictures now than any time in history.

  The most recent statistics indicate we take 54,400 pictures per second in 2022.  

  That's 1.72 trillion a year.  In 2013 we took a few more than 500 billion each year.  By 2025, we'll take nearly 2 trillion a year.

Most pictures (92.5%) are taken with smartphones, so few of us are looking through conventional viewfinders anymore.  Interesting, the statistics don't say how many pictures are selfies and how many feature the food we're about to eat.

This month I'm expecting to complete my 'collection' of covered bridges in the upper Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin).  We're going back to Michigan to shoot a bridge that was rebuilt after it was destroyed by an arsonist.

Later this year I'm planning to shoot several more lighthouses.  

There are plenty of them just on the United States' Great Lakes shorelines to keep me busy a while.  At some point, I hope to venture east to capture some on the Atlantic Ocean.

There are plenty of beautiful vistas and people out there... in addition to the obligatory selfies and food beauty shots I hope you appreciate your subjects.
