We saw a decisive win over the out-manned Cincinnati Reds last Wednesday.  Milwaukee won two more before losing the final two games in Atlanta and then the opener last night in the Queen City, which dropped their record to 19-11.

It's a good start to the season for the Brewers.  They have an important road trip with three in Miami followed by three in Cincinnati before returning home after Sunday's game.

Strong starting pitching and a good relief corps is a strong foundation - with six reliable starters who can be depended on to be stingy when it comes to giving up runs.  That doesn't mean they win every game but it means they have a chance to win each time.

Manager Craig Counsel should become Milwaukee's all-time winning-est manager by month's end.  He has the right temperament for the job and obviously has the players' respect.

The team is built around position players Christian Yelich and Willy Adames and pitchers Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Josh Hader with good versatility throughout the line-up where players seem glad to do whatever gives the team their best chance to win.

The highlight of Brewer history is losing game 7 of the 1982 World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals.  That was the crescendo of a short era (3- 5 years) where Milwaukee was battling against the 'big boys' in the American League East.  Since 2011, when the Brewers made the play-offs for the first time as a National League team, the team has been in the running every year.

I believe this team could win the city's first baseball crown since the 1957 Braves.

Successful teams usually have a chemistry (which leads to a winning atmosphere or is created by winning) and internal belief they can win every game on the schedule.

Chemistry and belief doesn't mean anything.  Winning teams usually stay healthy and get timely performances from veterans and rookies accustomed to back-up roles.

It helps to be on a hot-streak going into the post-season but getting on the play-off dance card gives you an opportunity.  That's where I feel best about this group of Milwaukee Brewers.

The pitching staff is good and this offense is more capable than the last two seasons.  Owner Mark Attanasio and President of Baseball Operations David Stearns will get any players they believe will get the team across the finish line.

Stay tuned... its going to be an interesting ride.
