My Week that Was - March 19

My week started in relaxing fashion as my wife was helping host an all day event at church.  It was on me to grab a couple things at the store; get a few things picked up at home; and then take in the various conference championship games on TV.

Just a few of you readers might recall stories early in this blog's history when I shared the strategy of moving the clocks ahead before the house was awake to give mom and dad an extra hour of quiet.  That's not a thing anymore.  The kids are grown and gone and most of the clocks in the house change themselves.

It was a short work week, but managed to squeeze the first two pizza parties of the year into it.  20 people attended Monday evening while extra seats were needed Wednesday when 25 gathered.  The pizza parties were on hiatus from March 2020 until October 2021.  Usually I've tried to hold the informal gatherings during the spring; at this point all but one of the remaining 9 are scheduled between now and June.

Last game of the "First Four" needed two overtimes to do it, but a last second shot removed Rutgers from the dance floor (I picked them to win four games).  The first two games of the first round also went against the teams I picked, just in case I needed a reminder on why betting on sports isn't a a good way to make a living (no wagers had been placed).

You can't count on signs of spring as the actual spring.  This week temperatures in Madison started at 5 above zero on Saturday, reached 64 Wednesday afternoon, then we had a Friday filled with cool weather and frequent rain showers that lasted into Saturday morning.  Like the t-shirt says, "Don't like the weather? Wait a minute."

The Badgers were the last game of the first round, and they were obviously boosted by a strong crowd of Badger Fans in Milwaukee's Fiserve Forum.  This team wasn't expected to do much before the season, but a first-place finish (tied w/Illinois) is prompted dreams of a run in the tournament.

The opponent, Colgate from the Patriot League.  The fighting toothpaste played a good game, giving the Badgers all they wanted.  Near the end of the 2nd half, Wisconsin found its rhythm and applied a tighter defense to pull ahead for the final margin.

The Badgers play Iowa State Sunday in the second round. Go Badgers and have a great week!
