My Week that Was - March 12

A lot happened this week in terms of weather.  It was warm, windy, and rainy Saturday; then cloudy Sunday before snow fell to make the Monday morning commute a messy one.  There is still ice covering lakes and ponds, but less ice than 10 days ago.

Wednesday morning it was around 5:30 when I saw the first hint of light on the eastern horizon.  It was faint with a streak of red and stretch of purple across an otherwise dark canvas.

The first three days of the work week went well.  I met several residents for the first time.  Some have been living on campus since late 2019, but the Covid-19 curtain closed campus around the time I would have set up visits with new people so the game of catch-up continues.

The war in Ukraine continues.  While it actually started more than 8 years ago, the most recent incursion was February 24.  It's an on-going international tragedy with world-wide consequences.

On the much less serious side of life, Aaron Rodgers announced Tuesday he will play this fall (and likely a few more years) as a Green Bay Packer.  That's good news for the team and its fans - and means the Packers will remain a Super Bowl contender.

It was also good to hear that the uber-wealthy owners of major league baseball teams and the wealthy players agreed to a five year labor-deal.  The Milwaukee Brewers qualified for the playoffs four straight years and seems to have the pitching staff to keep the team in contention in 2022.

My oldest son and I have been planning to see a couple Brewer road games, now we can finalize the schedule.

The Wisconsin Badgers couldn't hit enough free throws to advance in the B1G tournament, so today they are sitting in Madison waiting to see what their draw looks like when it is unveiled Sunday evening.

Basketball is game heavy with recency bias, meaning you believe your team is whatever you last saw play.  After two cold-shooting and somewhat low-energy games in a row, it is difficult to imagine them advancing past the opening weekend.  They have the talent and the team to reach the Sweet Sixteen and the Elite Eight if the shots fall, we'll find out together when the college basketball tournament begins.

Speaking of that madness, I am looking forward to watching a lot of ball, next weekend.
