Like a Lamb

Seen on the Ice Age Trail, Verona. 4/2/2017 (dwm)
March entered like a lamb, 37 degrees with partly cloudy skies.

Today, the last day of the month, the forecast is 37 degrees with rain or snow showers.  That's not my idea of a lamb, but it's not a lion.

In a limited online search, I learned the saying, "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb," is an astronomical reference to the constellation Leo which rises in late February/early March and Aries (a ram or lamb) which becomes visible at the end of the month.

But like a lot of familiar sayings, there is a kernel of truth, as March is a turbulent time when winter storms can leave their mark and early spring storms howl across the landscape.

Then, whether its gradual or all-at-once, the warmth and beauty of spring is revealed when we least expect it.

The first dozen days of warmth is uplifting and a morale boost - after trudging through snow, mud, and rain in old galoshes... it is beautiful to feel the sun on our face again.
