My Week that Was - January 8

Sunday, the Green Bay Packers clinched home-field for two playoff games before flying to Los Angeles for the big one.  That was the box checked last Sunday when the Pack defeated the visiting Vikings 37 - 10.

There are several players who missed most of the season because of injuries who might rejoin the team for the post-season.  The team is missing four preferred starters on the line, there's a chance two or three might return.

The highlight this week was my wife's birthday.  It's such an occasion one day isn't enough, so Monday we made our way to Dubuque to continue the celebration.

When we go through Dubuque, it seldom happens without stopping at a local book store, quilt shop, and popcorn purveyor.

River Lights Bookstore is locally owned. Operated by book lovers who probably read the book you're thinking of buying and know other books you would probably love.

Two of our favorite shops

The Cotton Cabin Quilt Shop is across Main Street from the other two in an old store with an original hardwood floor welcoming guests inside for the millionth time in its existence.

Freddie's Popcorn Factory was closed.  If it was open I'm sure we would have come home with a couple containers of Chicago-mix popcorn (white, cheese, and caramel), maybe next time.

Kwik Trip sent out 'report cards' on Tuesday, telling its rewards club members how many times they visited, how much gas they bought, and in which area of the store they spent the most.

I had 273 visits to 39 of their 800 stores.  Kwik Trippers with more than 250 visits are given the title, 'Trusted Tripper' the highest level of loyalty (I know at least one person with more than 365).  I bought 311 gallons of fuel and spent most of my money on fountain drinks.

The thing I like most about Kwik Trip is its reliability.  Reliability is the hallmark of any chain, it is the ability to replicate the experience repeatedly in multiple locations.  One thing that helped Kwik Trip during the pandemic is its reputation for clean bathrooms.  They sell good food (food they make themselves in many cases) and price it reasonably.  When it comes to customer loyalty, those are three great places to start.

I know one place I'm stopping this weekend... maybe twice... I hope your next week is great.
