Karen's Hip Hop Diner

It's a must-stop in
Fox Lake, WI.

Friday we were between Beaver Dam and Portage when we came upon the town of Fox Lake.  Based on the population of 1,696 on the sign as we crossed the town limit, I didn't expect much.

Then we saw a bright sign and colorful building that looked like a fun place to eat, we immediately turned left into the driveway and went inside.

The colors alone warmed us along with the kind greeting and escort to a small booth along the back wall.

After we got home, I learned the restaurant opened in 2019, which means it's been in Covid mode most of its existence, so just having the doors open is a major accomplishment.

I ordered the Ranch BLT while Rhonda went with the Cod Filet sandwich which came with delicious fries carved from a single potato.  The food is high quality and made with care, a must for every restaurant.  In addition to lunch and dinner, Karen's is also open for breakfast.

It's a lively and lovely dining room which
creates a great atmosphere. 1/28/22 (dwm)
Karen owns one-half of the restaurant, while Karen owns the other half of this family-owned and operated restaurant.

The younger Karen, checked us out as we left, telling us she and her mom (also Karen) own the place together.  They took an old gas station, got rid of everything except the back wall and started from scratch.

It's a 50s and 60s themed restaurant with menu items named for singers and actors from back in the day with music lyrics stenciled along the ceiling.

Prior to Friday, I'd never driven through Fox Lake, now I have a good reason to return - for food and fun at Karen's Hip Hop Diner.
