37 and Counting

37 years and one day ago, January 26, 1985, Rhonda and I were married during a 1 PM ceremony at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa.

We decided to have it there because it was convenient for us (we lived in Des Moines).  It was my college church during my time at Drake and where the two of us went after Rhonda moved to the capital city.  She became a member of Trinity a month or two earlier.

There were 150 guests invited, we were joined by 75 of our family and friends.

2000 seemed like a lifetime away, which it was considering we were barely 20 and 21 at the time.  We didn't know what was coming; in fact, at the start of January 1985, Rhonda was planning to keep working at the downtown floral shop in Des Moines while I continued working overnight at WHO.

An interview and job offer to become the news and farm director for KJJC in Osceola, Iowa (50 miles south of Des Moines) changed plans dramatically.  I started my new job the Monday before the wedding while Rhonda wrapped up her Des Moines job.

We didn't know that in 19 months we'd be living in South Dakota and expecting our first child a year after.  In another two years three of us moved to Wisconsin with our final addition joining us in 1990.

In 1990 we didn't expect to move to Augusta, Wisconsin or Indianapolis in 2005.  God knew where we were going then as He does now.  That's good enough for us, especially since we're making our home in Madison.  Happy Anniversary!
