My Week that Was - December 18

Sunday night's game against the Bears started poorly.  The Packers looked like they missed their wake-up call.  In particular, the special teams were bad.

They made multiple mistakes - a kickoff went out of bounds, giving Chicago the ball at the 40; our returner touched the ball then dropped it out of bounds making it first and 10 from our own 5; a punt was returned for a touchdown; and another punt was brought back 40 yards.

In the second quarter, Green Bay started moving the ball and the defense found its rhythm.  When the Pack only trailed by 6 at halftime, it gave me hope because I didn't think they could play as poorly in the second half.

They didn't.  Aaron Rodgers lead the team down the field on their first possession to take the lead.  The defense forced a turnover and soon the Pack had a lead, they went on to win 45 - 30.

I love working at Oakwood Village.  Tuesday was an excellent example of how special it is.  I met with a couple to discuss our campaign.  While it's the holidays, unfortunately there has been sadness in their home lately, although you would never know it.

They shared their story with me.  It was an honor to be part of that conservation.  It's an honor it is to be in my position and have these opportunities.  Like a resident recently told me, "...being at Oakwood is like a college class on aging."

Wednesday morning at 5 it was 50 degrees.  It hit the upper 60s by late afternoon. Strong straight-line winds crossed into Wisconsin from Iowa around 8. We hunkered down after bringing all the light furniture and decorations inside.  As the winds blew in, we wondered what would happen overnight.

Verona had a night of strong and gusty winds, but other than a small branch, our neighborhood came through unscathed.  It was still windy when we set out for Indiana Thursday morning, which affected the gas mileage but didn't bother the drive.

We spent a couple days in Carmel with our son and daughter-in-law for an early Christmas celebration.  While there, we walked around the city's Christkindlmarkt.

It's a tradition in Europe.  There is a definite European flavor, with a German influence among the stalls.  Many of the items on sale were hand-crafted, from intricate ornaments to Black Forest coo-coo clocks.

Day two in the Indianapolis metro was spent shopping and/or surveying stores we haven't seen or missed since moving back to Wisconsin.

Last night, after a special Christmas dinner, we went out to see lights displayed around the community.  I'll use those pictures as part of a blog later this week.

We're one week away now, Merry Christmas, everyone!
