Giving Tuesday

Today not-for-profit organizations hope you think about them as the year winds down.

There are literally thousands of charities to choose from... there is your church, school (private or public, which frequently has a foundation or friends group linked to it), zoo, museum, or other place that is dear to your heart.

Giving Tuesday began as a follow-up to Cyber-Monday when people returning to work spent some time online ordering gifts for others or themselves.  It's our way, as non-profits, to say, "Hey, don't forgot us!"

Instead of a long post about why I think you should consider making a gift, I'm sharing five not-for-profits that I've supported or where I worked.

I've worked at Oakwood since 2012 and love the older adults who choose to live on an Oakwood Village campus.  While monthly fees cover much of the cost, donors make it possible for Oakwood to care for residents who run out of money (Continuing Care Endowment Fund) or provide resources for improvements.  You may support the older adults living at Oakwood Village in Madison by clicking Oakwood Foundation

I worked at Lutheran High School of Indianapolis from 2005 to 2012 and enjoyed every minute of it.  Christian education relies on donor gifts because your support provides student aid and money for much needed projects.  You can help Christian education for secondary students by choosing Lutheran High School of Indianapolis

My first fund-raising job was with the North Wisconsin District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.  There are a variety of ministries members and churches support including Camp Luther which offers Christian camp experiences for people of all ages.  Your gift helps the camp near Three Lakes thrive.

I never worked here, but have come to know members of their fundraising team.  Second Harvest solves the critical issue of food insecurity thanks to generous donors. It's always a good time to fight hunger by selecting the Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin

I first gave blood as a college freshman, the last time was less than two weeks ago.  You can give cash to deal with disasters and people in need by supporting the American Red Cross - South Wisconsin or find a place to give blood by following this link to the American Red Cross - South Wisconsin

If none of these matches what matters most to you, please do a quick internet search for the non-profit near you to find their website, then look for the Give Now or Donate button.
