My Week that Was - October 23

The church we joined five years ago met in the clubhouse of a Bishops Bay subdivision with a plan to build its own facility.

The initial options didn't work out leading eventually to a piece of property facing County Highway M where it passes Governor Nelson State Park.  The pandemic happened as church leaders were finalizing zoning issues.

A virtual voters meeting via Zoom approved its funding and work began as most of us hunkered down to ride out the first twelve months of the Coronavirus.

Work crews finished construction in late September.

The first service was held October 3 and the official dedication was October 10.

This last Sunday we began our new normal.  The blessing of a permanent location is the permanency.

The new building meant no one had to come two hours early to set up chairs and a sound system.  Other than occasional adjustments and cleaning, the sanctuary will stay as you see it in the photo left.  Unless we need to set more chairs.

After worship we had a couple hours before the Packers were to play the Chicago Bears.  It was the 203rd meeting between the clubs which began playing in 1921.  Green Bay came into the game with a slight advantage, 101 wins, 95 losses, and 6 ties.

The Pack got off to a slow start when starting center Josh Meyers was injured on the first drive.  Chicago drove downfield for a touchdown, holding the lead into the second quarter.

Green Bay scored twice in the second stanza, a pass from Aaron Rodgers to Alan Lazard and a Mason Crosby field goal staked the Pack to a 10 - 7.  The Pack scored again after halftime for a 10-point advantage on a pass from Rodgers to Aaron Jones.  The Bears cut the lead in the fourth quarter, but the Pack answered as Rodgers ran it in for a score.  The final was 24 - 14.

It was a tough game, typical of rivalry games.  I was glad to see the defense settle down after giving up the early score and the offense find their groove after a disjointed first quarter.  Green Bay takes their 5 - 1 record back to Lambeau where they play Washington tomorrow.  Go Pack, Go!

Monday was the last day piloting the rickshaw this year.  It was perfect, sunny and 70 degrees.  Moments like those will help get many of us through the long winter months.

The first two and a half days of the work week were spectacular - sunny, warm, and calm.  The weather turned Thursday as rain moved in and temperatures dropped as Wednesday night's low became Thursday's high.

It's not the end of seasonable autumn days, but it's a harbinger of things to come.  Rain and wind strip color from trees leaving bare branches against heavy clouds.  I'm still planning on a few more days of riding, but not this weekend.
