Happy Labor Day

The lingering COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact workers and employment.

An upside is recognizing how important many of the jobs we don't think about actually are to our daily lives.

A downside is a combination of factors which makes finding and hiring employees more difficult than ever.

Until an "all-clear" is proclaimed in terms of Covid-19 uncertainty remains for students returning to school and day care operators re-opening to care for kids before and after school.

The biggest positive for labor is increasing hourly wages for those essential employees because of the basic economic principal of supply and demand.  The supply of people to work in health care, hospitality, and entry level manufacturing positions doesn't match what employers need to get the jobs done.  One way to persuade potential employees is to give them a better financial incentive and strong benefits.

Our way of life depends on good jobs, adequate pay, and confidence in our future.  That confidence is usually born in a job we feel good about and believing if we do the job well we can work in that role until we retire or find a better one.

The pandemic correction isn't going to bridge the gap between "haves" and "have-nots," but it has moved us several steps in the right direction.

I hope you do something you enjoy, whether its paid or volunteer, that adds purpose and meaning to your life and the people you serve.

Thanks for your work!
