Vintage Video - School's Out!

 There is a lot more to education than what kids learn in the classroom.

  In this episode's collection of school-related stories you'll see a variety of ways students use what they learn and apply it.

  We start with two high-school students who are also businessmen which requires navigating paperwork and finance.

A whole school takes a field trip together on a passenger train teaches them about the role railroads played in building the United States.  A group of high school friends paid tribute to a childhood friend by raising money to fight the disease which killed her.

You will see stories on kids making a difference in their neighborhoods and reacting with compassion and concern when grown-ups in charge are in a bad way.

The last story's only connection to school is a football game.  It was played near the end of Governor William Janklow's term when he stepped in to officiate his first game.  As KELO was the only station with a reporter in Pierre year-round, we were the only ones to get this unusual story on the air.
