My Week that Was - July 17

The week before this one ended in Indianapolis where spent several days with our son and daughter-in-law.

One day was spent at I.U. Health Saxony where we waited for the completion of a minor medical procedure.

Everything turned out fine.  On the drive in, I noticed a wild area around the clinic and hospital, then later learned there was a 1.5 mile walking path around the perimeter of the grounds.

The first-half of the path was well-marked with stones marking the distance every tenth of a mile.  The second half of the route had a couple stone markers and signs of the gravel path, but it wasn't mowed.

There were city streets around the outside of the campus so it was impossible to get lost and I enjoyed the colorful summer landscape.  By the time I finished, it was nearly time to go.

At the end of our stay, we headed west and across Illinois to the Mississippi River town of Chester.  The primary reason for the trip was to see the Mary River's Covered Bridge a few miles outside Chester, checking off the final bridge on my "to photograph" list for the state.

We headed into Chester afterwards to learn more about its most famous citizen.  You'll read about him and his town in an upcoming post.

After Chester we headed to Springfield, but drove through heavy rain for tense 30 minutes.  It was a relief when we pulled into the hotel parking lot.

On Sunday it was less than four hours home, time to unpack, start a load of laundry, and decompress after the hustle and bustle of the trip; lost sleep; and road fatigue.  Monday was a typical first day back in the office after time away.  It wasn't tough, but I was exhausted at day's end.  Thankfully, by Tuesday I was rested and refreshed after a good night's sleep.

The Milwaukee Bucks fought their way back to tie the NBA Finals best-of-seven series at two games a piece.  Saturday night they play in Phoenix which is scheduled to host 2 of the next 3 games.  The first team to win two games is the champ, and I'd love to see the Bucks win it all.

There are a lot of reality shows on television these days.  One that has caught our attention is Alone on the History Channel.  Ten men and women are dropped off in the wilderness with very few tools with which to hunt, build, or make fire.  While the conditions are difficult and it's tough to find food and clean water; the biggest obstacle for most contestants is coping with loneliness.

It was a busy week at work with several writing projects to complete and 40 calls to make, but after fighting off the inevitable fatigue after time-off it all was finished by the end of the week.

I hope your week including checking off some 'to-do' boxes.  Enjoy your new week!
