My Week that Was - May 22

This week got an early start thanks to a day off on the 14th to drive north to the city of Ashland tucked along the shore of one of Lake Superior's many bays.

We stayed at the beautiful Hotel Chequamegon where we stayed almost 25 years ago for an agency meeting when I was selling insurance for Aid Association for Lutherans.

It looks much like it did during the community's hey-day with lots of wood and abundant elegance.  From our room we could see the Ashland Lighthouse on the breakwater and three other lights guiding boats in and out of the harbor.

It was our first over-night after we were both fully vaccinated.  It was great.  We enjoyed a nice meal in the hotel restaurant after a few stops to shop.  That evening and the following morning I got as close as possible to the Ashland light (see its blog last Tuesday).  We drove home by way of a detour north to Bayfield followed by a stop near Mellen at Copper Falls State Park.

We expect to enjoy a few long weekends throughout the year and expect to take a week-long trip later in the year.  It felt good (and strange) to be inside a restaurant eating off plates.  It wasn't normal, but it was close.

The past three work weeks have been getting closer to normal too.  The past two weeks I've been in my actual office three days.  This week I was in the office for five!

Last March it took a couple weeks to adjust to home-working; now I'm re-learning the names of office colleagues and meeting new members of the team.  There are still some office supplies at home I haven't taken back yet.  That will probably occur over the next couple weeks.

I hope your weeks are beginning to look more normal, have a great week!
