Vintage Video - Everybody Talks...

My years as a reporter reinforced the old saying, "Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it."  In radio, time and temperature go together like cookies and milk.  Weather updates and news is the lifeblood of local news - in case you wondered why most stations lead with it.

June, July, May, and April is prime time for severe weather; high temperatures; and too much or too little rain.

If severe weather was in the area, that meant more time on the mic in radio or grabbing the camera to search for ominous funnel clouds.

Local and national news love extreme weather.  When I was at KELO in South Dakota, I made extra money several times when CBS wanted footage of that day's blizzard; heat wave; or devastation caused by the drought.

You can attribute the popularity of weather coverage to it either making people nervous or frightened.

This collection of 12 stories shares weather and how we try to do something about it.
