Another Election

Today is election day.  In Wisconsin the vote is a primary battle for the position of State Superintendent of Schools.  Seven candidates will be reduced to two by the end of the day.

State Superintendent is an interesting position.  It's elected, but has little real power since the Legislature controls the money and makes most of the rules for schools.

Essentially we elect the person we hope has the most influence on education.  Most of the candidates have been local school superintendents and several are former teachers, from what I've read they agree on most of the big issues when comes to teaching our children.

This is the first election since last November and the first time I will vote in person since the pandemic started.

The election snuck up on me, so it was too late to ask for an absentee ballot.

I feel comfortable going back to the polls.

First, the rate of virus infection is at its lowest point since late last summer.  Second, in terms of voter turnout this election is lightly attended.  Third, the percentage of people wearing masks here is higher than other places around the state and there will be precautions (plexiglass divides, frequent cleaning) in place.  Finally, because there is only box to check I won't be there for long (some communities might have additional primaries for local office).

Let's Vote!
