Happy Anniversary

Our wedding napkin spoke
to my ability as a handyman.
36 years is twice as long as either of us lived with our parents and that's the number my wife and I reach today.

It seems the longer you live the more likely you are to talk about how fast time passes.  It sure seems fast.

Saturday, January 26th was sunny after a couple snowy days which impacted the travel for some guests who fought through bad roads to join us at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines.

I finished my degree the previous month and started a new full-time job at KJJC-FM the Monday before the ceremony.  We found a place in Osceola, Iowa - an apartment over Mickey's Hardware store on the city square - before downtown living was stylish.

Neither of us expected 14 moves, 7 jobs, 3 careers, and 2 times on unemployment or navigating through losing a home to foreclosure and going through bankruptcy.

We anticipated a family, but didn't know we'd be blessed with two boys who grew into fine men.

We've navigated 10 months of Covid-19 working from home!

The Lord is our shepherd and guided us along life's path better than any GPS.

We were young, barely 21 and 20, but felt confident in our commitment and future.  Looking back, it's stunning at how little we knew about life and each other.  God's abundant blessings, family support, forgiveness, understanding and love brought us here.
