Wintertime is Here

Winter storm Draco left this behind
8 years ago. 12/20/2012 (dwm)
Eight years ago today Madison was digging out from under 20 inches of snow that stopped everything.

We lived in a third floor apartment at the time.  As you see in the photo (left), that didn't mean we were above the fray.

The winter of 2020 - 21 is supposed to be snowier than usual.  I don't mind the snow.  I'll be glad to take 20 inches in batches of 4 - 5" per storm.

The Winter Solstice occurred at 4:02 AM Central Standard Time today.  It features the least amount of daylight all year, 8 hours, 59 minutes, and 45 seconds.  Tomorrow, December 22 we get 3 seconds back.  By the end of December we've recovered 43 more.

  That, my friend, is progress.

On the four days when we move from one season to the next there is usually poetry of some sort in this space.

I don't have any of my Dad's verse today, so let's give this a shot.

Dusk, Dark, Dawn

Late December is dreary
Daylight's on lockdown
With no time to stretch its legs.

Four o'clock gives way to sunset
Four a m is dark
First beams of light hours away.

Daylight past seven
Sundown before five
Short days
Covered by clouds
And billowing snow

The sun went south
We await its return.
