Phil is Phil Rosenthal who is the creator, writer, and executive producer of "Everybody Loves Raymond."
"I'll Have What Phil's Having," was a six episode documentary on food that wasn't renewed. We lost track of it - then, thanks to the pandemic and needing to find things to entertain and amuse us we started consuming series by the pound.
Eight months into the Covid, we found "Somebody Feed Phil" on Netflix. It's the same concept as his first look at food from around the world and its quite captivating.
The four seasons with a total of 22 50-minute episodes. It's more than food, it's a travelogue.
Season 1 moves from New Orleans to Lisbon to Bangkok dining in the finest of restaurants and food carts with the same sense of wonder, amazement, and appreciation for the food, people, and culture.
There's plenty of food you couldn't pay me to try, but I enjoy watching him eat fearlessly. While in Saigon, he joins a family in a pond to harvest Lotus stems, snails, and catch catfish that he eats for lunch with the family.
Speaking of family, he calls his parents at some point during each episode to tell them about his adventure and find out what they're doing. His mom and dad usually steal the scene.
The show may entice you to plan an exotic adventure when this pandemic is over. Or it may persuade you to do more to your food than put corn flakes on your casserole.
Try it, you'll like it. We should be so lucky as to like something as much as Phil does.
