It was almost as difficult as waiting for the end of the coronavirus pandemic.
While our "perfect" behavior is fleeting, waiting to experience a special event or moment adds to the joy as we think of how happy we will be to get that shiny toy, sparkling ring, or news we've been waiting to hear.
As you rush around this week getting ready I suggest we stop a moment to think about something we're waiting for as anxiously as children at Christmas.
Children at Christmas
The moon shines bright on Christmas Eve
When children all their gifts receive.
At each young heart, excitement gnaws
As they look out for Santa Claus.
They've helped to trim the Christmas tree
And mailed Mr. Claus a written plea.
To buy presents for others, they've opened their banks.
They've minded their manners, saying "please" and "no thanks."
As Christmastime comes, they find it expedient
To clean up their rooms and be extra obedient.
They've made their own beds and helped with the dishes,
Hoping the gifts they receive will coincide with their wishes.
They've been really preparing for this joyous day,
Making pictures of snow with a reindeer-drawn sleigh.
There are all kinds of drawings of wintery scenes
And stories to tell what the Nativity means.
There are smiles in abundance, and eyes are are agleam.
All anger has vanished, just like an old dream.
The joy on their faces is but a reflection
Of thinking in inside that approaches perfection.
The joy of receiving has not been discarded,
But it's obviously second to giving wholehearted.
Happiness appears in each girl and boy.
Both actions and words wish all Christmas joy.
