Joviality is a great attitude for the holiday. I shared a chuckle with a fellow walker Sunday morning near a small pond. We both noticed several ducks on the water fleeing something.
It was a muskrat. It was nearly invisible, just its nose and shoulders above the water as it pursued the Mallards. The ducks flapped their wings to put space between them and the predator but we couldn't see how the muskrat had a chance to capture one.
Later that day Green Bay salvaged the sports weekend after the UW basketball team lost at the buzzer to Marquette and the Badger football team was taken to the woodshed by Indiana. The Packers beat a team they were supposed to defeat. Aaron Rodgers threw his 400th touchdown pass. It was possible to dream about the Pack playing in February. Go Pack.
Year-end is usually a busy time of year in our shop. There are calls to thank donors for their most recent gift and their generosity all year. There are calls to see if the donor is ready to make a legacy gift. Some calls discover why a donor changed their level of support while other calls are spent listening as the person on the other end shares a complaint or burden.
Three weeks left. We've been blessed with great support this year, but like virtually everyone else, I'm ready for a return to a more normal work-life in 2021.
Wednesday morning I dropped the Christmas cards in the mail on my way to work. I'm sure it's the earliest that's ever happened. Usually I have them signed, sealed, and stamped by December 15 - so if you're on our list you should see it soon.
We finished our latest series, Somebody Feed Phil. We started a different series, a long one, The Andy Griffith Show. So far we're up to episode 17 of season 1. If you haven't been keeping track at home, since the start of Covid we've binge-watched Cheers, West Wing, The Right Stuff, and Somebody Feed Phil.
As the week came to a close the heaviest snow of the season was falling... I wonder if we'll get a glimpse of a Wisconsin Winter Wonderland?
Enjoy your week - there's just 13 days until Christmas.
