Welcome to Autumn

Autumn leaf. 10/17/2017 (dwm)
 My first seasonal post was in March 2013 for the vernal equinox.  Since then, I've marked the arrival of summer, winter, spring, and fall with a post that went live at the moment of its arrival with a few comments and a poem or two.

Just for a change, I thought I'd leave my pen to the side for the arrival of autumn and use a couple of verses Dad wrote to mark the changing of the seasons.

In 2020, so little has been "normal" I don't expect this season to be either.  Summer had its hot days, to be sure, but in the waning days of summer in the last few weeks our area set new records for lowest high temperature.

Leaves will change, daylight will rise later and set sooner.  If you live far enough north to experience the seasons, autumn is a special time as we cherish the last days of real warmth and appreciate the splash of colors before things turn gray then white.

You might sink into fall with a rake in your hands or a cold glass of apple cider, but I encourage you to find a way to experience your favorite parts of fall.

                                                                            Days are Shorter

                                                                Days are shorter in the year's last quarter;
                                                                Wind takes on a chill.
                                                                Tree leaves brighten; schools enlighten;
                                                                Fog may shroud each hill.

                                                                Nature's saying, "I'm here playing."
                                                                "This time of year is great."
                                                                In any season, life's a reason
                                                                For all to celebrate.

Autumn Leaves in Vibrant Hues

Autumn leaves in vibrant hues
Make a wondrous scene.

Magnificent are wooded views
Mixed with summer's green.

With such a sight, could one deny
Creation's works are fair
And that the Maker does supply
Our souls with beauty rare?
