Rest of It - Before & After

The kitchen was the focus of the condo refresh, but the refresh extended to most of the first floor.

We liked the wood floor in the living and dining rooms, but worked on the rest.  In the bathroom, we replaced the floor, vanity counter and light, sink, and faucet.

Before (after light was removed):

The centerpiece of the living room is a natural gas fireplace.  We don't use it often, but it's nice on cold winter mornings.  My wife wanted to spruce it up cosmetically and make it an eye-catcher.

Before:

These two projects are the only ones where I worked.  The contractor suggested by removing existing tile, trim, and back-splash in both places it would save us money.  It seemed unlikely I could damage anything permanently, so I grabbed some tools and went to work.

After:
The final piece of the project was the fireplace wall.  After a several week delay because of scheduling issues, it wrapped up two weeks ago with a floor to ceiling brick surround.

After:
The wall finished, we brought in a crew to clean and tune the fireplace.  They cleared a thick layer of soot from the glass guard, but while checking the system determined the nearly 30 year-old unit isn't safe to use.  It's out of production with no replacement parts available.

It still looks better than before, and even without a fire it still creates a cozy place to relax.

We are already enjoying it.  Thanks to COVID-19 we're spending more time at home than usual.
